The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools, has developed these
continuing education courses to help school personnel improve their abilities to plan, implement,
and sustain effective drug and violence prevention programming in their schools and districts.

Web Course Functioning
These courses were originally hosted as live online events that have since been archived
online and provided on this CD. In some cases, "real time" functions that operated as part
of the online course do not operate now. Specifically, this includes: Event Support, live
Discussion Area activities, and Feedback or Evaluation requests. In other cases, certain
interactive online functions can still be accessed from this CD. Examples include: Online
Voting and related Current Results and Quizzes.
About Live Links
These web courses include a great number of hyperlinks to useful resources and outside
websites. All of these links functioned at the time the courses were developed and hosted
as live events. Due to the fluid nature of the Internet, however, some links may no
longer be active.
Internet access is required to link to outside websites.
CD Navigation
The CD will auto-launch on PCs. Mac users will need to click on the icon that appears on
their desktop. In both cases, an icon for your Internet browser will appear on the taskbar
at the bottom of your screen when the CD launches.
Courses are organized into three topic areas: Issue Related Courses, Effective Strategies
and Data Driven Decision-Making. Individual courses can be accessed two ways. The Table of
Contents button at the bottom of the CD window provides a full listing and links to all
courses. Each Topic Area Button links to a page that provides a brief description and links
to the courses within that topic area.
When you open a course, an icon for that course will appear in the bottom taskbar as well.
In many cases, courses reference and link to resources or activities in other courses on this
CD, as well as websites. Depending on the link, opening subsequent pages within a course
(e.g., additional tips) will override that course icon and you will need to use the Back
Button in your Internet toolbar to return to the previous page. In other cases, a separate
page will open and a new icon for that page will appear in the bottom taskbar (e.g., a PDF
or a website).
For PC users: Open pages that are minimized must be maximized by clicking on the
appropriate icon in the bottom taskbar. They will not maximize by re-clicking the original
link in the web course.
